Top 5 Candidates to Succeed Ong'ondo Were as the Next Kasipul MP

Top 5 Candidates to Succeed Ong'ondo Were as the Next Kasipul MP

Following the sudden death of Kasipul legislator, Hon. Charles Ong'ondo Were, several politicians and leaders have emerged as the favorites to succeed the late MP. Here's a short description of the individuals viewed as the top 5 contenders:

Kwame Otiende:

The KoF director appears to be one of the most suitable candidates to succeed the late MP. Though he has not declared his interest in the seat, many youth and voters view him as the right person for the job.

Kwame has been involved in several charitable events through his foundation, supporting women's groups, youth groups, and providing bursaries to over 1,200 needy students from the constituency.

Apart from his charitable activities, Kwame also possesses significant experience in public service, having worked successfully in England and established networks that could facilitate valuable partnerships for the constituency.

However, some people consider him too 'honest' for political leadership in Africa, a quality that could ensure transparency, accountability, responsiveness, and public participation in the constituency.

Bondo Vickins:

The West Kasipul legislator also appears to be a strong candidate for the seat. A seasoned politician, he served as the chair of the UoN Parklands campus before being elected as the MCA of West Kasipul ward.

Bondo enjoys support from West Kasipul, as well as from youth across the constituency. His uniquely humble character, despite his privileged background, makes him popular with many.

According to many constituents, Bondo is viewed as a charismatic leader with the potential to lead larger elective units. This positions him well to inherit the position previously held by the late Hon. Charles Ong'ondo Were.

However, some feel he is too young to inherit the seat, and others believe he should focus on fulfilling the promises he made to West Kasipul. Additionally, some feel he is too preoccupied with seeking justice for his late father, who died under unclear circumstances in a hit-and-run incident in Nairobi less than three months ago while on official duty.

Dr. Ogada Newton:

Another philanthropist and humanitarian, Dr. Ogada Newton, has expressed interest in succeeding the late MP.

Newton has been actively involved in humanitarian and philanthropic activities that have garnered significant attention from the residents of Kasipul. One of his most well-known activities is the medical camps he organizes through his Beryl's Healthcare Hospital. Additionally, Ogada is known for building houses for widows throughout the constituency, which has made him widely known and admired.

Ogada is also known for his moderate political approach and consistently avoids violence within the constituency. He also possesses extensive knowledge of various development programs, which positions him well for the seat.

Oketch Shadrack:

The soft-spoken businessman, Oketch Shadrack, is a familiar name in Kasipul constituency politics. Having run in the 2022 elections, he made a name for himself by presenting a transformative, people-centered manifesto. In fact, his manifesto closely reflected the Agenda 2030 goals.

Oketch is known for his advocacy for peace, equality, and equity, as well as his support for Generation Z during May 2025.

He also enjoys a strong connection with transformative and innovative youth, which makes him a notable figure in the race.

Shadrack advocates for transformative leadership, believing it is the only way to achieve development in rural communities.

Although he is not widely popular with many voters on the ground, Shadrack aims to leverage his network and his strong relationship with the youth to gain support within a short period.

Aroko Philip:

Philip Aroko has also emerged as a top contender for the Kasipul seat.

Having competed with the late MP for popularity, Aroko has established himself as a front-runner for the seat.

He has also been involved in several charitable events, providing bursaries for numerous needy students in the community.

However, Mr. Aroko is viewed by some as prone to violence, and many residents see him as a similar figure to the late MP.

Despite enjoying some support, his character has raised concerns among residents. While his supporters dismiss this as a minor issue, it plays a significant role in influencing the electorate.

Although there are other aspirants, such as Mr. Majiwa, Mr. Edward Oloo, and rumors of the late MP's son, Boyd, vying for the same seat, these five have emerged as the most influential individuals to succeed the late MP. We also anticipate several newcomers joining the likely competitive race for the seat. Ultimately, it is up to the electorate to choose the best candidate to lead them.
